the short prose prize
Open for submissions 13th April - 31st May 2026
The Glut Short Prose Prize opens for submissions soon.
The winner will receive a £250 prize. We will announce a shortlist and a longlist. We will have a party in London in the fall, in celebration, open to all who are available to attend.
We are looking for pieces of short prose - fiction, nonfiction, anything in between - under 3,000 words. To give you a sense of our taste, we encourage applicants to read our previous editions as well as dipping into the pieces below.

Learning to Measure Time in Love and Loss, Chris Huntington
Here are our complete guidelines:
-
Please only submit works 3,000 words or under, excluding the title. Works submitted that are longer than this, even by a handful of words, will not be considered eligible for the competition.
-
Please double space submissions and use a legible 12pt font.
-
Multiple submissions are accepted, but please note that it is one submission per entry fee, rather than per person. The entry fee must be paid for the submission to be eligible for consideration, unless you are the recipient of a low income entry (see below!).
-
We only accept work that has not been published elsewhere. If you are submitting the work for consideration elsewhere, please do let us know if it is accepted.
-
We are happy to publish work in translation, if we are the first to publish in English.
-
We are unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful submissions.
-
We accept submissions from unpublished and published writers, agented or unagented - previous publication is by no means a requirement.
-
We do not accept work that has been generated by, or substantially created by AI.
-
We have 10 low income entries available - this will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to apply for a low income entry, please email us with the subject heading ‘Waived Entry Fee Application’, with your contact details, along with a brief summary of why you are applying for a low income entry. If selected, we will respond with details of how to submit your piece to the competition.
In the event of publication, copyright remains with the writer. However, if accepted, you grant us free license to publish your work, both in our online journal and our social media pages. If you have granted an exclusive licence for your work elsewhere, we unfortunately will not be able to publish it.
